Effort to ban beer pong quickly abandoned

A veteran state senator has abandoned his effort to ban drinking games such as beer pong and flip cup in Baltimore City bars in the face of a growing online lobbying effort.

“We’re getting inundated with so many e-mails that I don’t have the time to fool with it,” Della said. “I just hope that if people continue doing it, they do it in a way that there’s not excessive drinking and disrespect for the surrounding neighborhoods.”

If he can take the position that people can be trusted to do it safely, then why would he try and ban it in the first place?  And if he doesn’t think that, then why’s he given up?

A far more sensible idea be to introduce some way of education, rather than control?  Right, can see why he wouldn’t go for that one…
