Like everyone else, we love it when a company sends us unsolicited spamshit, especially when we’ve told them we don’t want any. It takes real balls to send spamshit out to people who have specifically said they don’t want any. So well done to thetrainline.com for sending out this e-mail only to people who said they want to be left alone.

We got in touch with their head of marketing, Iain Hildreth, to let him know what was going on with a website that he doesn’t care about. This one.
Hi Iain,
I’m very careful never to accept invitations to join mailing lists. When I buy things online, I always untick that little box to say I don’t want marketing contact. I find them annoying, Iain, which is why I don’t do it. Sometimes the little box is worded backwards, so it tells you that you untick it if you don’t want to not be added, which is just confusing.
I know that with The Train Line, I haven’t ticked that little box. Iain, I know that because you e-mailled me to tell me. Your team sent me an e-mail letting me know I wasn’t on the mailing list. That’s very nice of you, in a world where I tell lies. Should I be expecting an e-mail from every company I’ve ever interacted with? The little old lady that runs my local post-office, reminding me that if I signed up to her list, then I’d be told the last posting date before Christmas? Is that they way you want it to be? Every transaction in the world, Iain, being followed by an e-mail would lead to the end of civilisation as we know it. Will your mailing list provider be sending me an e-mail to let me know about the fantastic e-mail delivery method I’m missing out on? I’m scared, Iain. Scared that my e-mail address will be passed around like a cheap hooker.
In that spirit, Iain, I have added you to the inaugural mailing list for Shouting at Cows, my personal website. It begins right below the line made out of equals signs.
I apologise for essentially wasting your time via unsolicited and unwanted e-mail, but now you know exactly how it feels, I would ask that you don’t send me any more junk.
Thank you.

– Bren watched “I’m A Celebrity…” I don’t really like the show. Do you like it, Iain?http://www.shoutingatco.ws/2010/11/17/the-apprentice-episode-7-lights-camera-arseholes/
– This is where I watched the Apprentice, which I’m more of a fan of.http://www.shoutingatco.ws/2010/11/16/shocking-iraqi-torture-methods-revealed/
– These are some very funny articles taken from a national newspaper, parodying the Waterboarding furore. Do you have an opinion on torture as a method of extracting information, Iain?
For some reason, he hasn’t bothered replying.
